Full Moon Lunar Eclipse 12/21/2010 in HD

This video is Owned & produced by Kareem Brown.

I share it here for your enjoyment because we had total cloud cover for the event.

Total Lunar Eclipse of December 21

The last lunar eclipse of 2010 is especially well placed for observers throughout North America. The eclipse occurs at the Moon’s descending node in eastern Taurus, four days before perigee.

The Moon’s orbital trajectory takes it through the northern half of Earth’s umbral shadow. Although the eclipse is not central, the total phase still lasts 72 minutes. The Moon’s path through Earth’s shadows as well as a map illustrating worldwide visibility of the event are shown in Figure 4. The timings of the major eclipse phases are listed below.

Penumbral Eclipse Begins: 05:29:17 UT
Partial Eclipse Begins: 06:32:37 UT
Total Eclipse Begins: 07:40:47 UT
Greatest Eclipse: 08:16:57 UT
Total Eclipse Ends: 08:53:08 UT
Partial Eclipse Ends: 10:01:20 UT
Penumbral Eclipse Ends: 11:04:31 UT

At the instant of greatest eclipse (08:17 UT) the Moon lies near the zenith for observers in southern California and Baja Mexico. At this time, the umbral magnitude peaks at 1.2561 as the Moon’s southern limb passes 2.8 arc-minutes north of the shadow’s central axis. In contrast, the Moon’s northern limb lies 8.1 arc-minutes from the northern edge of the umbra and 34.6 arc-minutes from the shadow center. Thus, the southern half of the Moon will appear much darker than the northern half because it lies deeper in the umbra. Since the Moon samples a large range of umbral depths during totality, its appearance will change dramatically with time. It is not possible to predict the exact brightness distribution in the umbra, so observers are encouraged to estimate the Danjon value at different times during totality (see Danjon Scale of Lunar Eclipse Brightness). Note that it may also be necessary to assign different Danjon values to different portions of the Moon (i.e., north vs. south).

During totality, the winter constellations are well placed for viewing so a number of bright stars can be used for magnitude comparisons. Pollux (mv = +1.16) is 25° east of the eclipsed Moon, while Betelgeuse (mv = +0.45) is 16° to the south, Aldebaran (mv = +0.87) is 20° to the west, and Capella (mv = +0.08) is 24° to the north.

The entire event is visible from North America and western South America. Observers along South America’s east coast miss the late stages of the eclipse because they occur after moonset. Likewise much of Europe and Africa experience moonset while the eclipse is in progress. Only northern Scandinavians can catch the entire event from Europe. For observers in eastern Asia the Moon rises in eclipse. None of the eclipse is visible from south and east Africa, the Middle East or South Asia.

Table 6 lists predicted umbral immersion and emersion times for 20 well-defined lunar craters. The timing of craters is useful in determining the atmospheric enlargement of Earth’s shadow (see Crater Timings During Lunar Eclipses).

The December 21 total lunar eclipse belongs to Saros 125 a series of 72 eclipses in the following sequence: 17 penumbral, 13 partial, 26 total, 9 partial, and 7 penumbral lunar eclipses (Espenak and Meeus, 2009). Complete details for the series can be found at:

2010 The Second Aries Full Moon

22 Oct 2010 at 9.38pm EDT and 6.38pm PDT

23 Oct 2010 at 1.38am GMT

The Moon on the physical plane is the symbol for mother, nurturing, memories, emotions, and change. On the spiritual plane she is the symbol for the Universal Mother Goddess, our Soul Essence Self and our Intuitive Wisdom. She shows us where we are blocked emotionally and teaches us to let go so we can flow with the river that is life. She teaches us to be responsive and release resistance to change.

Sister Moon has an approximate 28 and ¾ day cycle. That is how long she takes to visit all 12 zodiac signs each month. On her journey she interacts with Grandfather Sun in 8 different phases, each one being symbolic of an aspect of life experience. Think of this as growing plants. At the dark New Moon you plant seeds appropriate to the Zodiac sign the Moon is in. At the Crescent phase you water the seeds and tiny shoots poke their heads out of the earth. At the First Quarter phase you weed out whatever might block the growth of the plants. At the Gibbous phase you stake the plants giving them support and strengthening the stalks. The Full Moon phase is when the plants blossom and the flowers burst forth. At the Disseminating phase the butterflies and bees drink the nectar of the flowers. This is the time for sharing the fullness and beauty that has emerged. The Fourth Quarter phase the petals of the flowers begin to drop and you prune the plants as they prepares to scatter their seeds. At the Balsamic phase you decide which plants you want to continue to nurture and which ones have served their purpose. At the next New Moon you plant new seeds that are complimentary with the plants you have chosen to keep. And so the cycle continues.

What I love about the Astrological system is it shows us cycles within cycles. On your day of birth the Moon is in one of the 12 signs and one of the 8 phases. This is the signature for your emotional lessons and the path to your Soul Essence awakening. At age 27/28 (it is a little different for each individual) the Moon has made a complete circle of your natal Mandala and returns to its birth position and phase. The first cycle of learning emotional lessons and strengthening your connection to your Soul Essence Wisdom is completed. The second cycle takes you to age 55/56. If you resisted the lessons the first time around they are repeated until you get it. The final cycle begins at age 82/83. If you are one of the rare individuals who live to 109/110 years of age you will experience a fourth cycle.

Each month as the Moon goes through her cycle your natal Moon and phase is activated. This is the time when your opportunity for growth and awakening is most enhanced but also the time when emotional issues not yet healed will be emphasized. Your current progressed Moon and phase is also activated each month. Remember cycles within cycles. Any Astrologer can give your natal Moon and phase positions as well as progressed Moon and phase positions. That way you can follow the monthly phases I list in my New Moon articles.

There is another Moon activation that is very spiritual and significant. It is the occurrence of what is called a Blue Moon and refers to the second New or Full Lunation occurring in the same month but not in the same sign. This happens about every 14 to 18 months alternating between New and Full Moons and is based on the solar calendar most of the world follows. The last official Blue Full Moon was on Dec 31, 2009. It was also a Lunar Eclipse and a Super Moon and so was incredibly powerful. Twelve days later the earthquake in Haiti changed that country and its people forever. The next Blue Moon activation will be a New Moon on July 30, 2011.

Our current Lunation is the second Full Moon in Aries. The first was on Sept 23, 2010. Although this is not officially considered a Blue Moon it does have some of the mystical qualities of that event. Double Moons (either New or Full in the same sign) occur in each of the 12 zodiac signs. From 1900 to 2010 the average of this event is about 14 times per sign. There does not seem to be a clear pattern to calculate when this will manifest. Sometimes there is as little as a 4 year cycle between these Lunations in the same sign to as long as a 19 year cycle. I am currently working on a grid to list all of the double Moons in the last 110 years. I have Virgo rising and we like details and research. I am not sure what the purpose of this information is yet but feel guided by Creator and Great Mystery to do it so I am listening.

We know from the monthly cycle that Sister Moon goes through; the Full phase is the blossoming time. If we look at the yearly cycle the New Moon in Aries (inspiration, creation energy, and new beginnings) that occurred on April 14, 2010 is now at the half way point. Whatever seeds you planted then are now blossoming. Just remember if you are focused on what you want that will manifest. If you are focused on what you do not want you will get more of it. The Universe only hears “want”. After the Full Moon we enter the waning phase which includes the Disseminating, Fourth Quarter, and Balsamic phases until the next Aries New Moon of April 03, 2011 when a new cycle begins.

Going back to the double Moons there is a larger cycle here. On March 20, 2004 we had a New Moon at 00 degrees Aries and on April 19, 2004 there was a second New Moon at 29 degrees Aries which was also an Eclipse. The theme of that Eclipse was to learn to become your own authority, stand on your own two feet, and become responsible for your life. Because the Eclipse was in Aries it was also about new beginnings. I remember that time so well as the Universe was constantly telling me I could only rely on myself. That was when I focused on building up my New Moon list and began sending out the monthly articles via the internet. We now have over 2000 people plus receiving the Moon messages. The question to ask yourself is what your focus was in 2004 regarding new beginnings? The day after the first Aries Full Moon of Sept 23, 2010, the blossoming time for the cycle that began in 2004, I joined Facebook and opened up a whole new connection to the world. Ask yourself how are you manifesting the blossoming? We will be in this influence until 2023 when the next double Aries New Moons occur.

This Oct 22 Full Moon at 29 degrees Aries is joined, in longitude, by the Fixed Star Al Rescha. This star is called the Sacred Knot as it is located at the point that joins the two fish of the Constellation Pisces. The theme of this Starry One is “it represents the point of contact between two types of knowledge: the joining of different ideas to create wisdom and understanding, or the marrying of two concepts to create a greater concept. This is a gentle star that indicates a tendency to seek different connections, to look at things in a different light, to join separate concepts in search of a greater understanding.” (Star and Planet Combinations by Bernadette Brady). When combined with the Moon it asks us to be a bridge to help others experience harmony and balance. That is also the spiritual meaning of Full Moons.

Going back to the idea that this second Aries Full Moon of Oct 22 carries the vibration of “once in a Blue Moon” that feels right to me and makes this Moon very spiritual. The Clan Mother for the Blue Moon vibration is Becomes Her Vision. She is the Guardian of all cycles of transformation. She is the Keeper of Change and guides us to wholeness. She also guides us to stay true to our Soul Path and live our Spiritual Visions. This fits so well with the Aries vibration of awakening to the I Am Self. For Becomes Her Vision’s full story you can find it in The 13 Original Clan Mothers or Earth Medicine, both by Jamie Sams.

Rather than rewriting the same information here is what we shared about the Animal Totems, Clan Mothers, Tarot Constellations, Ray Energies and Archangels for the Aries Full Moon of Sept 23. They are the same for this current Aries Full Moon of Oct 22.

The Animal Totems that guide us at this Full Moon are Crow, justice and balance, and Raven, magic and the mysteries, for the Sun in Libra and Red Tailed Hawk, spiritual messenger, for the Moon in Aries. Pay attention to the messages you receive for they are coming directly from Creator and Great Mystery.

The Clan Mother (the 13 Original Clan Mothers by Jamie Sams) who guides us for the Sun in Libra is Weaves The Web. She is the Guardian of the life force in all things, the eternal flame of love, and working with the truth. For the Moon in Aries the Clan Mother is Looks Far Woman. She is the Guardian of the dreamtime and Doorkeeper of the crack in the universe and the golden door of illumination. She teaches us to see the truth in all things. She carries the medicine of prophecy and the ability to see into other dimensions. You can see how the Clan Mothers and the Animal Totems are working together at this Full Moon to connect us to our Divine Selves.

The Sun in Libra is expressed on the Tarot Constellation of The High Priestess, the principle of Balanced Judgment Through Intuitive Awareness. Libra is always seeking balance but sometimes does not listen to the Inner Knowing that will create harmony. The Ray for this Libra Sun is 3rd Ray, Active Intelligence and Divine Mind. We are being asked to listen to the guidance from Creator and Great Mystery as we make choices about our relationships. The Archangels who guide us are Chamuel, healing through Divine Love, and Charity, acceptance and gratitude.

The Moon in Aries is on the Tarot Constellation of The Emperor, the principle of Life Force and Realization of Power. Aries, if caught in ego, can be self centered and overpowering. That upsets the balance that Libra is trying to create. The key with this Full Moon is co-operation and integration that leads to harmony. Aries is a 7th Ray sign, Ceremonial Order and White Magic. It asks us to walk through the golden door of illumination and become teachers for others. The Archangels who guide us are Zadkiel, invocation and prayer, and Amethyst, forgiveness and freedom. They are Keepers of The Violet Flame of Transformation and Transmutation.

Aries is also a 1st Ray sign, Divine Will and Power. This Ray connects us to our Divine Essence as Creator and Great Mystery long for each human to remember who they really are. The Archangels who guide us are Michael, protector and spiritual destiny guide, and Faith, trust and love.

Use this powerfully spiritual Aries Full Moon to step into your true self and at the same time honour those who are trying to do the same. Let Becomes Her Vision guide you as you blossom and become who you are meant to be.

Blessings Dale
