Lifestyle changes can be difficult, determining your direction and goals can also be challenging.  A holistic coach can help you shape up and start living your life in a way that is more in line with your life’s goals than your current lifestyle may be.

There are eight important areas of our life that we need to pay equal attention to: work, money, environment, personal growth, health, community, family and our spirituality.  A holistic coach will consider all the aspects and how, if out of balance, can contribute to health problems.

There are several things to consider when looking for a holistic life coach.

• Consider their experience.  Holistic life coaches should have experience working with different kinds of people. Testimonials from former clients are also a good sign that they’ve accomplished what they say they can.

• Find out how long they have been giving advice and helping people.  Ask how long they have worked as a part-time or full-time coach. You basically want to interview them on a conversational level to find out if you’re both a good fit for each other.

• Holistic coaches can focus on career, life, sales, or any particular field of your choice. Make your needs, desires and goals clear to your coach. They’re best able to help you if you know what direction you’d like to go.

• There is no harm with talking with several holistic coaches before making a choice.  Look for other holistic coaches and meet with them, choose the person you best identify with. It’s an important choice, as important as choosing the right doctor.

• Make sure that the coach you choose understands and listen to your objectives and your demands. The most effective coaches are also the most effective communicators.

• You’ll want to check each coach’s references.  Talk to previous clients or friends or family who worked with the coach and get their feedback.

• Aside from checking the coach’s reference, make sure that they also attended or are accredited by the International Coach Federation or other reputable Trade Associations.  They also provide membership to professional life coaches.

• When meeting with a holistic coach, make sure that you full understand what kinds of services you are receiving. Be sure that the services and fee structure are explained to your satisfaction.

• Choose a coach whom you can identify with whether it is for personal or business reasons. It’s important that you feel comfortable with each other in order to communicate effectively.

It is important to choose a life coach who was able to understand a person clearly and deliver results.  There are a lot of people who falsely advertise themselves as a holistic or life coach. Do not get fooled by impostors and scam artists.

What is a clear way to separate a trustworthy holistic coach?  Check their website.  If they have contact information on their website, make sure to call and verify the information.  Also make sue there’s personal contact information indicated on the site which makes it accessible to clients  24 hours a day.

Also remember that holistic coaches are meant to ease the burden and help you achieve some direction in your life, not add to your stress.  Holistic coaches should be motivating, inspiring, exciting and drives you to action, if they cause you stress, then tell them.  You are the one who will pay the bill, and besides at the end of the day, it is still about you.

While holistic lifestyle coaches can help you prioritize and organize your life in a more balanced way, they’re not meant to be a panacea or fix-all cure. The bulk of the responsibility ultimately lies with you. Nobody can force you to eat the right things, exercise regularly or meditate daily. Environmentally conscious consumers are increasing.  In fact, in a survey performed by the Natural Marketing Institute, about 63 million Americans are practicing a lifestyle of health and sustainability, which is also known as LOHAS.  The increasing demands on green and healthy products are causing the emergence of green businesses and use of green practices by other business establishments.

Businesses have learned that not only will they save the environment by practicing green strategies, but they would also save on their operational costs and increase their profit, in the long run.  But will consumers buy more expensive, green products while in economic recession?  Apparently, yes.  The OTA Manufacturer Survey of 2009 showed that total food sale was only 1.6%.  However,  organic food sales grew by 5.3% , an evidence that Americans are purchasing eco-friendly food even though tad costly.

How do you promote your eco-friendly business to consumers and possible clients?

The first thing to do is ensure that your business is certified green. There are different institutions like the Green Business Bureau, Institute for Green Business Certification and even the Green Good Housekeeping Seal, could help in certifying your business, products or services.  Establishing approval from these institutions could help a lot if promoting your business.

The last thing that you want to happen to your business is be accused of greenwashing or pretending to be environmentally friendly when your products and methods say otherwise.   To avoid claims of greenwashing, Brooks Beard, a partner in Morrison Foerster law firm, recommends that green businesses should :

•    Be cautious on choosing or promoting products based on their being green.
•    Be specific in describing the product and use the appropriate words.
•    Particularly identify which part of their product is green
•    Be prepared to support their claims with credible certification, data or research.

Radical transparency or informing the public about your products, ingredients and measuring your carbon footprints will help in promoting your business.  Establishing your business’ credibility, even though it is still starting would help consumers trust you and your products.  In short, the business should “walk the talk.”

Nowadays, consumers want to be green and turn to eco-friendly products, however, they do not rely only on manufacturer claims.  Being honest with your business’ environmental and sustainability efforts is important.  Consumers are ready to research on specific products and labels, they are also ready on spreading bad publicity once they realized that a particular manufacturer is fibbing.

Also, if your budget could afford it, then you could start giving samples.  Consumers may not be interested in getting sample products, but it would signify that you trust your product.  Have your internet site working and updated, it does not have to be the best website, but it should be informative and creative enough to attract customers and possible clients.

Aside from that, always be updated with current environmental issues and demands.  The green market is fast evolving, technology and science has led us to better understanding of what would be beneficial and destructive.  Keep in mind that promotion of your green business is not only for profit, but for consciousness-raising which would lead to public participation and action.

Holistic Lifestyle – Self Healing

Using self healing as an example for the purpose of this description, it’s my hope that you’ll be able to apply the concept and premises described to your own practice and life. It is offered only as reference to my own personal experiences and my own walk.

I recently had surgery to repair the last of three hernias (two inguinal and one umbilical). Two of them were repaired in a surgery in 2008 and the last of them was taken care of very recently.

Having undergone this procedure before, I felt prepared and there were no real surprises. Some of the pre-surgical conditions were radically different though.

Three years ago I was 50 pounds heavier than I am now, yet still fairly active and healthy. I was walking every day and even did a small leg of the AT (Appalachian Trail) out in the Berkshires through Bear Mountain state Park.

As of June 2010 (as some of you may know) I began a habit that has turned (returned actually) into a passion…running. At the time of the first surgeries I was walking around carrying 235-240 lbs.

Last year, through some half- hearted efforts and the flu, I whittled down to 225 lbs. My physical activity helped me to maintain that weight.

It was also around that time that I became certified in Reiki 1.
The benefits and changes that have been facilitated or potentiated in my life through Usui Reiki are both profound and exhilarating.

Through further study and the daily practices of Usui Reiki, Munay Ki Earthkeeper Wisdom and other healing modalities as well as yoga, I have come to realize the synergistic threads and energies that each shares.

Once any of us realizes that there are more “things” that bind us together than separate us, our ultimate responsibility becomes more clear, we’re graced with more passion and more energy to pursue “that” in our lives and therefore are able to bless more people, in more ways with the particular collection of gifts, talents and abilities that DO make us each unique.

It’s safe to say that the surgeries of three years ago took place on a body that didn’t have the “spiritual preparedness” that it does now.

When I prepare for healing either myself or others I first clear and set Sacred space. The intent of the healing is then set from within those sacred boundaries. I also prepared for this surgery by using essential oils to maximize the healing and shorten the recovery period. Contact me if you’d like more information about the oils.

Post surgically when applying self Reiki, I set intent upon retrieving an energetic representation of perfect health & healing for the area of injury or deeper to an example of perfect DNA, unblemished by scar, dis-ease or injury.

Through that intent I seek the sense of balance that lets me know that the intent has been received and implanted. Meditating on the healing in the following days allows the complete manifestation of  it to be revealed.

You can “choose” to be one who heals quickly. You can also impart that seed (energetically speaking) to those who you’re called to heal.
